Large lovely huipil from the Chichicastenango region. Traditional tapestry style with beautiful flower design. Fantastic texture and color! This is a very stunning huipil from the Chichicastenango region of Guatemala, famous for having one of the largest markets in the country. This huipil measures 33″ across the shoulders, 35″ across the chest, and 27″ – 31″ from the neckline to the bottom edges (folded). The neck opening is round and measures 5″ in diameter with an additional 2″ slit to aid in putting over the head (note: this is a very snug fit over an average head). The sides have been stitched to create armholes.
This three panel huipil is striking with elaborate weaving that features a very unique multicolored classic design with flowers and birds throughout the body and shoulders. The neckline is decorated with the radiating sun, traditional for the region. The background fabric is rich woven brown cotton blend.
This huipil is in very good used condition with little sign of wear, perhaps a few loose threads. There are some open weaving near the bottom edge and some of the panels are open where they join. The neck opening snap is non-functional. This is a beautiful textile!
