Description
Very detailed and extensively hand embroidered vintage huipil, full of flowers with baskets and hearts! It is from the town of San Cristobal Totonicapan. This striking huipil measures 32″ across the shoulders* and 29″ across the chest*, and 28 1/2″ from the neckline to the bottom edges (folded). The neck opening is round and measures 5 1/2″ in diameter (snug fit over average head). The sides are stitched closed creating armholes. *There is stitching along the sides that makes this huipil more narrow. If this stitching is removed, it would add approximately 2″ to the width of this huipil.
This huipil is beautiful with brilliantly colored all hand done embroidery that features flowers and baskets with sweet hearts radiating from the neck opening and accenting the sleeve openings. The background is a commercial-made white fabric.
This huipil is in good used condition with some sign of wear, mostly missing embroidery stitching on the neck opening and a few loose threads in the bodice embroidery and some tiny spots on the white base fabric. A truly exquisite textile!
