Very stunning embroidered huipil, full of beautiful birds in a colorful garden! It is from the town of Santa Maria de Jesús. This striking huipil measures 27″ across the shoulders and 26″ across the chest, and 28″ from the neckline to the bottom edges (folded). The neck opening is rectangular and measures 5″ x 5 1/2″ (fits over average adult head). The sides have been stitched to create armholes.
This huipil is absolutely beautiful with brilliantly colored embroidery that features birds, flowers, and grapes on each side of the huipil in a flower garden, with a pair of lovely quetzal birds in the center. The colors are glowing jewel colors of greens, blues, purples and more! The background is a black commercial fabric and there is a hidden pocket on the inside. The embroidery is all machine done free-hand, and is truly an art form. Just amazing! This is a wonderful example of the incredibly beautiful ‘fiesta’ huipiles of Santa Maria de Jesús.
This huipil is in very used used condition with little sign of wear with a few loose threads. A truly exquisite textile!
