Description
Lovely corte/skirt. The corte is a wrap-around skirt that consists of a cut of cloth usually joined to form a tube into which the woman steps. Excess material is wrapped around the body and folded at the waist in pleats, and tied with a faja (belt).
This colorful corte measures 100″ long and 47″ wide from side to side as shown in the photo. Cortes are sewn together to make a tube. The stitching joining the sides of the tube has been removed allowing it to open completely. The design is alternating rows of beautiful butterflies and sweet flowers in a variety of colors all woven onto a heavy black cotton background. The randa, or area where the fabric sections are joined, is decorated with a machine embroidered maya star style design in deep pink.
Fabric from cortes can be used in a variety of ways, such as table covers, bed covers, curtains, throw pillows, clothing, etc.
This corte is in very good used condition, with a few signs of wear, perhaps a few loose threads. A stunning textile!
