Very beautiful woven and embroidered early style huipil from the village of Nebaj. This spectacular huipil measures 37″ across the shoulders, and 20″ from the neckline to the bottom edges (folded). The neck opening is round and measures approximately 6″ in diameter (comfortable fit over avg adult head). The sides have been stitched to create arm holes.
This huipil features elaborate machine embroidery of a crane type bird amongst leaves that is representative for the area of Nebaj. The sleeves are also machine embroidered with a lovely pair of birds over each shoulder. This older style huipil is not often seen. The very soft and drapey background fabric is a unique color scheme of the Nebaj region with stripes of aqua-blue, purple, black, and yellow.
This vintage huipil is in excellent used condition with very little sign of wear, perhaps a few loose threads. A spectacular and very elegant piece, perfect for display or wear!
