Very detailed woven vintage huipil from the village of Nebaj in beautiful royal blue. This ornate huipil measures 29″ across the shoulders, 30″ across the chest, and 24″ from the neckline to the bottom edges (folded). The neck opening is square and measures approximately 4″ x 4″ with an additional 3″ snap-closed slit on one side to allow it to pass over the head with ease. The sides have been partly stitched to create arm holes.
This huipil features extensive and elaborate weaving of geomorphic figures including various birds, deer, people, and horses that are representative for the area of Nebaj. The figures tell a wonderful story. The colors are a variety of greens, golds, and blues and more on a background that is royal blue woven cotton blend. The collar has accent trim.
This vintage huipil is in very good used condition with very little sign of wear, a few loose threads. The snap close on the collar is missing the receiving snap and the remaining part shows some rust. A very elegant piece, perfect for display or wear!
