Super large and lovely huipil from the San Juan Atitán region. Large and beautiful style with wonderful details. This huipil measures 35″ across the shoulders, 35″ across the chest, and 33 1/2″ from the neckline to the bottom edges (folded). The neck opening is rectangular and measures 6 1/2″ x 3 1/4″ (**note: this is a tiny opening and will NOT fit over an average head without alterations). The sides have been stitched, creating armholes.
This three panel huipil made with cotton and acrylic blend threads is striking with elaborate tight weaving that features a very lovely design throughout the body and shoulders that feature birds, maya stars, flowers, hearts, and hidden letters. The neckline and arm openings are decorated with black crochet accent. The background fabric is the traditional deep purple, blue and black with white stripes.
This large huipil is in great used condition with little sign of wear, perhaps a few loose threads and slight wear at the neckline and sleeve openings. A stunningly large textile, perfect for display! This is a beautiful textile!
