This striking huipil is from the area of Tecpán and is full of flowers, fruit, and fish. This lovely huipil measures 30″ across the shoulders, 25.5″ across lower section*, and 26.5″ from shoulders to lower edge. The head opening is diamond shaped and measures 8″ x 8″ (generous). The sides have been sewn to create armholes. *The sides have been taken in and if let out, would add approximately 2″ to each side in the width.
This huipil has the more modern style for Tecpán and is beautiful with its bright colors and hand weaving that features flowers, fruits, birds, and fish. The colors are royal shades of pinks, blues and reds and yellows. The background fabric is heavy woven white cotton. The thread is predominantly cotton. There is an added extra panel of commercial fabric on the lower edge on one side in order to make the front and back similar in length.
This huipil is in great used condition with few signs of wear, perhaps a few loose threads and slight discoloration of the white background at the lower edges. A stunning textile!
